Twenties Girl Sophie Kinsella Books

I overlooked this book 3 or 4 times, but after reading The Undomesticat Goddess, and can you keep a Secret, I needed another taste of Sophie Kinsella penmanship.

I wanted to stop reading in it in the first chapter. I couldn't see where this was going, but I pushed through and I'm glad I did. I was resolved to continue reading until the mystery of the necklace was solved. I fell in love with Sadie, I wanted to slap Lara a few times too.

This is a great story, I finished it in the dentists office and had to stop myself from shedding tears at the end.

Read it and press through you won't be disappointed.

Twenties Girl Sophie Kinsella Books Reviews

Great great story! I loved it. A modern girl is taken over by her guardian angel, her deceased 105 year old great aunt, who recently died but came back as her 20 year old self. They become great friends and have many adventures, solve old mysteries and set things straight.
This is a great book in the chick lit genre and nice deviation from Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic series. I tend to prefer the non-Shopaholic books from her and this book delivered. The main character, Lara, actually has quite a bit more substance than a typical Kinsella main character without losing any of the charm and endearing qualities. The story begins at a funeral for Lara's 105-year-old great aunt Sadie, who Lara has never met. Lara realizes at the funeral that she somehow can see and talk to Sadie's ghost, who implores her to help find a lost necklace that has deep meaning for her. This starts Lara on an adventure that quickly becomes much more than a simple errand for a dead relative, forcing her to reevaluate things about her career, her love life and her overall life outlook. This book was fun and light without being 100% fluff. A very fun and enjoyable read.
I've always loved Kinsella's "Shopaholic" books! I think they are simply outstanding! For some reason, however, I've found it hard to get into her stand-alone novels. But, NOT the case here! TWENTIES GIRL is simply wonderful - and I'm SO glad I bought myself a copy!!

TWENTIES GIRL is about Lara Lington and her great-aunt Sophie. However, the book starts with Sophie's funeral. So, how is the book about Lara AND Sophie? Sophie's a ghost of course! Or, is she Lara's guardian angel? Either way, Lara finds herself on a mission to track down Sophie's much beloved necklace in order for her, Sophie, to be at peace. What ensues, however, is so much more! I'm honestly not sure how Kinsella managed to pack in so many delightful details, much less how she made them all feel completely satisfying and complete.

Though Sophie lives to be 105, she appears to Lara as she remembers herself, as she always felt she was, 23 years old, vivid, spunky, and loads of fun. The relationship that builds between Sophie and Lara is simply perfect, and they both really deserve each other (for better and worse).

It's soon becomes clear that there's so much more to Sophie than a lost necklace. And it's soon clear that there's more to Lara than being haunted - there's her jumbled career, her ex-boyfriend, her caring parents, and her egotistical, hugely successful uncle.

A delightful bonus, is that I actually really like the "leading man" in this book (usually I'm only so-so about Kinsella's men, but this one is definitely much more my type!) I think the refreshing thing about this book, though, is that it's so much more than a romance! And it's so much more than a mystery! It's truly a book about friendship and appreciating the people in your life.

I laughed so many times when reading - and yes, I even cried. I'm not sure how Kinsella does it - there never seems to be extensive explanations or descriptions, but I always feel I have a total understanding of the characters and their world, and I feel completely connected, like they are my friends.

Highly recommended!!! D
Sophie Kinsella has an easily recognizable voice in her work, but this doesn't necessarily work against her. That voice is authentic and charming, and less ditzy in this boomtown in others she's written.

I loved the ghost aspect of the book, and the interplay between the two main characters. It's an enjoyable read all the way through, leaving me wanting even more Supernatural Sophie.
I adored this story , I laughed , I cried , it was too hard to put down. It seems most people tend to ignore their older relatives, only truly caring about them when need something ... even after they are gone. This story to me was a reminder to cherish my older relatives while they are still here , because unlike our character, we won't get a second chance to do it. I highly recommend this book .
I loved the book, it was funny and touching at the same time. I loved the connection to the past, in terms of the present.

I felt a connection especially because I just visited my 101 year old aunt, who is in a nursing home. I remember her as taking care of everyone, so full of humor and so full of life. It is sad to see her old. Even in her 90's she was full of life and worried about how her hair looked. All her family and friends that she grew up with have passed. When I see her, it is hard to reconcile her with the Aunt that I knew and loved. She is nothing like her anymore age has taken away her youth and vigor. I certainly identified with a major component of the plot- that people who are very old, have had wonderful brilliant pasts.... even though age has taken away their vigor.

This book was a wonderful fun book full of laughs and events that make us look more into our own lives. I loved the connection to the past and the discoveries that the protagonist makes. The path that the characters take and their growth is also very well done, and balanced- not preachy. I was disappointed that the book came to an end.
I almost never read fiction books, especially "girlie" fiction books, but this book had me hooked from the first page! I recommend it to all my friends, I've bought copies for others as well. Highly recommend it for a super cute light read- great vacation book.
