Wow. My first post-apocalyptic book; zombies and everything. One of the sites which offers free downloads of Kindle books offered several books by indie authors in exchange for a review and, as I usually choose my books by title, this is the one I chose. I couldn't find the author's e-mail to discuss the book with him in private, so I must do it here. I am a fault finder. Editors, by not catching errors, make the author look dumb. All through the book the wrong discreet was used. It is DISCREET not DISCRETE. It is from the word discretion. Also, whenever something happened in the PAST, the word PASSED was used. At least he was consistent.I usually enjoy murder mysteries and, although there was some detecting in the story, it was hard to follow. There was a great deal of jumping around. It took me several days and one Kindle recharging to finish the book, I was quite happy to see the end.
Sorry, Mr. James, I'm not a fan.

Deceased and Residing in Oakland edition by Philip James Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This was my first zombie tale. It was pretty fun. A combo of mystery and walking dead. With humor and gritty gore too.
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily and honestly reviewing it.
An overall okay read with an interesting premise. It definitely could have been better.
This is a interesting spin on your average zombie story. It's 25 years after the zombie apocalypse and San Francesco is walled off. The daughter of the richest man it the city is missing. Conrad Crete, ex cop, ex Zombie Squad, now man for hire is hired to find her. What he discovers is a twisted bed of lies that lead him to the dangerous places outside the walls and if the dead don t get him the living might. Great read if you enjoy zombie and mystery books.
I was hoping to like this book but unfortunately it had me checking often to see how close to the end I was. The basic story line was good and there was a lot of action, Conrad an ex policeman with the zombie squad, becomes more or less a man for hire, who ends up dealing with way more zombies than he would like. The mystery aspect of the book was a real challenge to figure out, which was great, but unfortunately there was too much dull reading between patches of story and it was confusing in spots because of the wording. I voluntarily agreed to read and review a copy of this book.
3.5- 4 stars
I enjoyed this new take on the zombie apocalypse trope and frankly never thought I'd use the words zombie and funny in the same sentence but this book is both. 25 years after zombies appeared ex-cop Conrad accepts a case looking for the daughter of a rich man in a world where humans live in walled cities. Overall this is a well written book, a bit choppy in pacing (the middle really slowed down) with an interesting premise. I did get distracted by wrong word usage or wrong spellings and the book could have used a good edit or spell check. If you can ignore that then this is an enjoyable read. Recommended.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for voluntary review consideration
Packed with action and edge-of-the-seat suspense, this was a deftly written engrossing story.
I really was not expecting the quality of the writing and story when I picked this up to read and review; I have rather appalling luck on the whole with this genre.
This one is a clever blend of gritty detective noir with the post zombie apocalypse. And I found myself riveted.
It is about the post zombie apocalypse but it's also about humans demonstrating the wide gamut of our nature with all its foibles; the greed, the striving for power at the expense of others but also, importantly, it's also about finding friendship in the most unlikely of places.
I received this as an eARC and had no hesitation in writing a review.
Funny and witty take on the whole genre! I'm looking forward to his next offerings.
