The Look of Love The Sullivans Book 1 edition by Bella Andre Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This book's male protagonist (I will not and cannot call him a "hero") is a repulsive, predatory creeper. I didn't read past when, upon seeing how someone had given the female protagonist a black eye, he popped a boner and began plotting a "slow and steady seduction". This is after he coerces her into getting into his car, ignores her request to be brought to a motel to drive her into a secured property she'd have trouble getting away from, and flaunts his ill-timed erection while she acts in both word and mannerism like a classic abused person.

Other reviews have indicated a free-fall of quality after this point (which boggles the mind-- when you reach the bottom of the barrel, I guess you just grab a shovel and start a-digging). I'm glad I didn't continue.
This is the first in the series and based on this book I will not be reading the remainder of this series. Have never read Bella Andre before and if this is the best she has to offer I cannot for the life of me understand how she got be a best-selling author. This book is badly written in that it is shallow & immature whilst attempting to be 2 things all at once - heavily sexually alluring to the point of pre-occupied with sex .... and wholesome & innocent!! How do those 2 things go together? Lacking in story substance, and given the canvas of the Napa Valley that the author had at her fingertips(literally) to see so little reference to all that natural beauty is disappointing to see such an opportunity go begging to enrich this novel and deepen its appeal, while the author spent more effort on attempting to impress the reader with money & riches. It's not difficult to realise the author knows little about running vineyards and wineries. Our male lead character did little short of walk on water to the point where this became an insult to my intelligence, AND WAIT FOR THIS ..... "Mr Superguy" walks in on the lead female when she's in the bathtub - on the very first night they meet when they barely know each other! How do those 2 things go together? Any self respecting woman would've slapped him. Any self-respecting man would never have done it. It starts to feel really non-sensical. The fleeting attempt at portraying the lead characters as creative and entrepreneurial fell flat as it came across as just an attempt at padding out the sex encounters which is what this book seemed to be largely about - to the point of boring. I don't feel anyone needs to read a characters musings of blow by blow analysis of every single thought, wish & need that lead up the to the lovemaking which reads like trying to justify the fact ... just as they are about to head for the bedroom - snore.........zzzzzzzz!! It seriously interrupted the action. And...... I never felt the love ..... that's how poor the writing is. If these 2 main characters are becoming emotionally attached I really didn't get pulled into it - I felt like an objective observer rather than being carried along with our characters. The sex scenes lack sensuality and are way too wordy - I actually laughed out loud at one point because all the wordy overdone irrelevant details once again kill the mood and comes across again as an attempt to fix poor writing that hasn't managed to achieve the objective. This is almost a book for the "young adult" section but the sex makes in inappropriate for that age bracket - but that really is the level of the writing - but I have to say that even as a teenager I was reading better quality and depth than this. I didn't finish it - I couldn't stomach it any longer and gave it up.
I cannot remember when I last read a book of such low caliber. It read like a high school or college joke where everyone writes a chapter, and the book is simply strung together with titillating sex scenes when all the chapters are combined. The plot strains belief a woman is standing in the rain after her car ends up in a ditch, is saved by a handsome photographer whose brother's renowned winery is just up the road. He thinks this "drowned rat" is the most beautiful woman he has ever met - while he is on his way to a tryst with another woman who thinks he has brought someone for a three-some! In less than a day - after watching her masturbate while bathing - they are involved in sexual escapades in bed, out of bed, against doors, on balconies, and just about every place but the kitchen counter. Chase somehow thinks this is true love; and Chloe is not out of one abusive marriage and already on the way to yet another she thinks is true love, when she was not even sure 24 hours earlier if he was a shining knight or an ax-murderer! The plot never improves, so if someone wants to spend their money, be advised that it is one sexual encounter after another; but these two are about as prepared and oriented to a lifelong commitment and lasting love as two rabbits. Caveat emptor applies with this series.
To much sex, not enough substance. Luckily it was free and I just deleted it again.
